Black and white

When finding that perfect shot, choosing to capture in black and white can eliminate any imperfections and will enhance the photo's tone and feel. To reduce noise try and shoot with a low ISO, this will focus on a clean image with the option of added the grain at a later stage if you so wish via a photo editor.

Since you don't need great lighting conditions you can really have fun with shapes and shadows.

Urban shots

Let your images speak volumes in terms of storytelling. That one shot that you take with a large number of activity could echo. When cities come in line with the camera, you've got structure, angles and texture along with the bustling everyday life to add to the drama.

The real treat in these urban playgrounds is night photography, this is where you need to switch off auto mode and take over with manual. Increase your exposure by widen your lens and slow your shutter speed. If you slow your shutter speed for 1/30th of a  second without zoom, you will need to use a tripod and if your camera has it, a lens stabiliser.
Rule of the thumb is  3x zoom shutter speed 1/125th of a second and 6x zoom 1/300th of a second.

The results can be magical when capturing trail lights from passing traffic at shutter speeds of 1/2 or 1 second.

Macro

Every photographer has their favourite way of creating their timeless masterpiece and macro is high on this list. From beads of raindrops to the secret life of bees, macro will introduce every inquisitive eye to a new world hidden from our vision.

Firstly you will have to attach your macro lens as using a non macro lens may increase blurring and distortion up close. True macro lenses will give a ratio of 1:1 meaning you will increase your subject 100% also you will need to switch your camera to macro mode and get close, VERY CLOSE as magnification is the object when on the hunt for extreme close up shots.

This in turn will shift the attention to the detail so remember to use your tripod as the slightest wobble will lead to a disappointing result, now begin discovering this extraordinary existence.
